Ash Vasireddy is a full-time fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon. He works at King’s College Hospital, one of London’s busiest Major Trauma Centres. The hospital is at the centre of the South-east London, Kent and Medway Trauma Network and has been the best performing network nationally as measured by survival rates.
Consultant Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon
His day-to-day practice involves the assessment and management of major trauma patients.
He specialises in the management of complex upper limb, lower limb, pelvic and acetabular fractures. He also works closely with the Plastic Surgeons in the management of all open fractures.
He works alongside a superb team of Emergency Medicine specialists, Anaesthetic and Intensive Care Doctors as well as other Surgeons (e.g. General Surgeons, Neurosurgeons and Maxillofacial Surgeons).
Ash completed his medical degree at Guy’s, King’s & St. Thomas’ School of Medicine. At medical school, he also completed a Bachelor of Science degree (with Honours) in Molecular Medicine. After medical school and the completion of Basic Surgical Training, he was appointed to the prestigious South East Thames Trauma & Orthopaedic Rotation. He completed further specialist Orthopaedic Trauma training at The Royal London Hospital, as well as Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowships at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham (under Prof Moran) and King’s College Hospital in London.
In addition to advanced Orthopaedic training, he has also trained in the fields of Vascular Surgery, General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery. Uniquely and in comparison to many surgeons, Ash also has extensive experience in Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care and Anaesthesia.
HEMS / Pre-Hospital Care Consultant
Ash is also one of a handful of Surgeons in the UK who also works as a Pre-hospital Care Doctor. Having previously worked for London’s Air Ambulance (for 4 years), he now works as a Pre-hospital Care (Air Ambulance / HEMS) Consultant for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance.
In his role as a Pre-hospital Care Consultant with the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), he works alongside a Critical Care Paramedic and manages the critically-injured patient at the roadside by completing advanced medical procedures that usually take place inside an Emergency or Intensive Care Department. The ethos of Pre-hospital care is to deliver the hospital to the injured patient at the roadside in order to commence early and appropriate treatment. The patient is then transferred to the appropriate medical centre.
In his role as a Pre-hospital Care Consultant, he is also involved in the training of future Pre-hospital Care Doctors and Paramedics.
Lecturer & Educator
Ash also holds a number of Academic posts.
He is a Lecturer at the Institute of Pre-Hospital Care at London’s Air Ambulance. This role involves teaching students completing the Pre-Hospital Medicine BSc course. He is also part of the faculty for the Pre-Hospital Crew Crouse (PHCC), which is an internationally-recognised course that educates and trains Doctors and Paramedics new to the field of Pre-Hospital Care.
He is also a Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the Blizard Institute of Trauma Sciences, which is part of Queen Mary University of London. He is part of the faculty for the MSc course in Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences. He supervises students undertaking research as part of their Masters degree.
